Frequently Asked Questions

Where does my donation go?

Every dollar you donate to the Welcome Home Fund goes directly to helping clients move into permanent housing, and provides furniture, household basics, and one-time fees and deposits.

I can’t donate money, but I can donate time. Where can I find volunteer opportunities?

Visit www.thewayhomehouston.org/partners to find a complete list of the more than 100 agencies involved in the collaborative effort to prevent and end homelessness in Houston, Pasadena, Conroe; and Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery Counties!

So I can’t give *anything* to homeless individuals I see on the street?

We cannot tell you what to do, but we can share our recommendation. Many times when homeless service providers engage with homeless individuals on the street, homeless individuals cite well-intentioned donations of money, food, clothing, etc. as reasons not to access shelters and other programs that can help them end their homelessness. You can print copies of the Street Guide to hand out to homeless individuals who are panhandling.

What do I do if I see someone in need of help?

If you see a homeless individual who you think is in need of help, send an email to info@thewayhomehouston.org to have a homeless outreach team connect with them. If you see someone in need of immediate help, call 911.
